The cat's out of the bag, very good story about what Mike had been going through.
Thanks for pointing that out. I used to go on Comp Plus all the time, but since they changed their website ("If it works, fix it anyway") I don't go over there anymore. The new website is way too busy, too many pop-ups, and the new font is hard to read.

Back to Mike, I've seen him at the CA Hot Rod Reunion, and at the Nitro Revival. He walks around in regular clothes, by himself, just like he is a regular person. No entourage. I talked to him once at one of the Reunions. He likes drag racing history. I forget what I asked him about, but it was related to the Big Show. He spoke for about 10 minutes. I got figety because I didn't want to be taking so much of his time. But he seemed happy to chat with a fan.

Amazing that he went to several supposedly well-regarded Doctors who couldn't find a thing wrong with him. Makes you think.

I feel your pain on CP but I am finding better ways to navigate it and get around. Bobby didn't have much choice in the "upgrade". The old version was no longer supported.

Amazing story. His stamina should be through the roof now with this surgery. Good for him. He seems like a great guy.
Not everyone gets a second chance at life. Sounds like he's going to make the most of it. He is a great guy, very humble and unassuming. Read his life story, he built a multi million dollar business from nothing and now he is having the time of his life drag racing with his daughters. Go Mike in 2025!

Not to be a braggart, but I've known about his medical situation for some time. Just felt that it was not my place to say anything and if Mike wanted it known, he has the means to do so.

I've met Mike several times away from the track at social events (once at Robert Reehl's parent house for a Taco Party) and yes he is a"salt of the earth" kind of guy. The kind of guy who seems to be content to be another face in the crowd. The last time I saw him at was two years ago and he asked me about how my dad was doing. I thought that was nice of him to ask,

I would have never known he was having any medical issues. He has a good testament for healthy lifestyle and happy to hear that he'll have many more years to come.

I know the more I come to know him the more I am impressed and motivated by his example of how to make it happen, looking forward to watching him next season 👍😎

It seems awful strange that they didn't do an angiogram after his first visit. After hearing his story about the chest pain, it seems like they would have done it just to be on the safe side. Glad he's back to normal. I wonder if they'll have a third dragster to rent out to part time racers. That seems to be a lucrative business these days.

Mike was smart to keep questioning the doctors. In 2017 I was traveling a lot, Florida HOF, New Zealand etc, I got blood clots. I went to the doctor. during the next 8 mounts the SOB never did anything but tell me my heart was trying to get rid of the water in my body. for 8 months my heart was beating at 158 BPM 24 hrs. per day. I called the doctor when I was at the CHRR in 2017 and said I can hardly move and I am coming back to Utah and you are going to find out what the hell is going on. Back in Ut. he sent me to the head heart doctor who sent me to St. George in a ambulance the next day I was given a heart ablation for a flap in my heart (caused by the high heart beat). 2 doctors said during my recovery I was 1-2 days away from room temperature. In 7 days I went from 209 Lbs. too 154 Lbs. all water. Bottom line get a second opinion.

Jon,

Sorry you're having a bad time with the new website. Not sure where the pop-ups are from since we don't have any on the new site.

We had no other choice but to change the platform, as the one we were on was going to be unsupported and eventually crash the website and there would be no CompetitionPlus.com. We changed platforms to go more mainstream and to have better options for advertisers, which enables us to keep providing a free-to-read website. For almost 14 years we kept the same design which was liketrying to run a Beretta in today's Pro Stock.

I hope you reconsider visiting as we will always do our very best to bring you original content with reporting you can trust.

Thanks Bobby, looks good to me👀

Reading Mike's story makes me realize how much of a wimp I am with aches and pains. I need to strive to be more driven like he is. His story reminds me of my uncle's story. He travels for work and woke up one morning not feeling well a threw up a few times and decided to drive back home a day early. He spends Saturday resting and Sunday after working on my sister's car he still was not feeling well and had her drive him to urgent care. They ran some tests and basically told him "we are calling you an ambulance". Luckily his heart attack was fairly mild but still had he been stubborn and waited any longer he probably would have gone to bed and not woken up. Having gone through some health problems earlier this year it is something that has stuck with me to not mess around with anything like that.

Back to Mike I have always been a fan of his. I remember the first race he showed up to and had no clue who he was because I had never heard of him. I stopped by his pit and was absolutely blown away with how immaculate everything was. Painted, striped, chromed, polish, the whole works. I figured if this man takes the time to polish tool boxes and rear ends he must be a hard worker. I finally got to talk to him for a little bit a few years ago during pre-season testing when his daughter was making her first runs on the bike and chatted with him for probably 10-15 minutes and was even more blown away by how well spoken and articulate he is. I respect the hell out of the man for going from being homeless to picking up scrap to eat to running multi-million dollar businesses. I am glad he is tuned up and ready to enjoy the fruits of his labor and be around his family for many many more years.

Something’s missing. To have all those blockages and previous doctors and tests unable to find anything? Glad he’s doing well now and wish him the best.

We had an acquaintance years ago who "wasn't feeling right," but was given a clean bill of health after several doctor visits and tests. A couple weeks later he dropped dead of a massive heart attack. 100% blockage of the "widow maker" artery.

I feel that your new website is very user friendly after going to if for a couple of days. So just don't like change.

A good friend of mine had triple bypass surgery last week. After spending three nights in the hospital, he went home and insisted on walking up his 100 yard long driveway to his house. He's two years younger than I am. He's doing well.
Then, today, another friend had quadruple bypass. I haven't heard yet how he did. He is a former Razorback All-American kicker, and about 5 years younger than I am.
Sometimes it comes down to genetics, sometimes it's lifestyle. But, it's never too early to get your heart checked. Preventive maintenance is the cheapest kind.

I agree that an angiogram should have been done sooner. I’ve had several, best way to check for blockage problems
