The Pro Slammers season opener was the first stop on the D&M Racing Team's agenda. Mike Henry and his family team led by 14yr old crew chief and son Michael Henry III, knew they would have their hands full as this was their first time competing at the Auto Club Famoso Raceway in California, which is the newest all concrete surface in the country. He qualified 3rd with a 7.25 in the extremely tough 7.00 index class at a tire shaking 196mph. " We just couldn't get a handle on the track. Going in with no data and my dad having to pedal it each pass wasn't really what we expected. We had the nitrous tune-up dialed in but the track had teeth and we didn't have time to make big changes on a one day event", says Michael Henry III.
The team did have lady luck with them beating a slowing Ken Christiansen in round 2 and getting a single in the semi- finals after 2010 champion Mike Doushgouian couldn't make the call due to transmission failure. Once the final was set it was Bruce Sanders in his blown 1968 Camaro taking the win over a red lighting Henry in his nitrous powered 565ci BBC 1981 Camaro. This was the second time these two have met up and we smell a little bit of a rivalry brewing in the D&M Racing camp after loosing in two finals to Sanders. "I was on my game all day and sometimes you just come up short. That's what it's all about, the challenge of doing better at the next race. We left second in the points so if we can keep this pace up we'll have a good chance at winning the championship. We know we are the underdogs, operation on a shoestring budget but we will continue to make every dollar count until we land a major sponsorship while putting on a great show for the fans". stated Mike Henry
The next stop for the D&M Racing Team is the Funny Car Fever at Sacramento Raceway Park on April 15-16th. Don't miss this event!
