Mel Bush Motorsports Adds Accomplished Crew Members (1 Viewer)

[coverattach=1]Elma, NY – In professional drag racing, ninety nine percent of the time the media and fans focus on the driver. In recent years crew chiefs have begun to enter into the limelight, but a true team does not start and stop with the driver and crew chief, it takes a talented crew of “specialist” to maintain a professional race car. More often than not the talented men and women who do the dirty work are often ignored but the talents of the two young men joining Mel Bush Motorsports for the 09’ season are too hard to ignore.

Eric and Jake Fahy of Lancaster, NY’s Empire Automotive come to Mel Bush Motorsports with an accomplished resume in drag racing as well as a long family history in the sport of drag racing. Dan and Doug Fahy, known around Western New York as “The Fahy Brothers” raised their son’s at the track teaching them the importance of hard work and perseverance.

Eric’s father Dan is well known in the Western New York Racing community for his exploits during the 1970’s with the Fahy/ Knight b/mp 1963 Corvette. In 1972 Dan Fahy was a national record holder. Jake’s father Doug, the younger of the Fahy brothers, took what he learned form helping his brother and became a heavy hitter on the local scene with many wins in PRO behind the wheel of his 1968 Camaro.

In 1991 Dan and Doug Fahy, owners of Empire Automotive of WNY, partnered on a Super Comp1963 corvette with Jake and Eric crew-members. Since then both Eric and Jake have begun their own racing careers both behind the wheel and behind the wrenches. Eric is the driver of a Tim McAmis built 1963 Top Sportsman Corvette. His father Dan serves as Crew Chief. While Jake serves as crew chief for his father on their Torrelli Pro Cars built Super Comp 1963 Corvette. While both their fathers tutored them in the finer points of sportsman racing the two also recognize Bob Bode and Walt Pryzbyl for helping them learn the finer points of professional drag racing, NHRA NITRO Funny Car style to be exact.

Eric (28) has been with Bob Bode Motorsports for five years as a cylinder head specialist whose duties also include maintaining the right side of the engine and body. Jake (21) has been with the Bode team for two years serving as the team’s clutch specialist. With Bode running a limited schedule the two will remain with Bob Bode Motorsports as well as Mel Bush Motorsports.

“A Pro Extreme car and Nitro Funny Car are two very different animals but there are many similarities in how they are prepared,” said Jake Fahy. “The cars may be different but our approach and our attitude towards our jobs are the same. We’re just happy to be joining such an accomplished team. From everything we’ve seen Tommy (D’Aprile) is a top –notch driver and Mel and his wife, Johanne, have a first class operation”.

Team owner Mel Bush likes everything he’s heard about the Fahy boys and is proud to have such competent driven team members. “ These two guys came highly recommended and I look forward to some great things from them.”

Driver Tommy D’Aprile is pleased to be adding crew members with such skill and passion. “Great things happen when you surround yourself with great people, and we’ve been blessed with that,” said D’Aprile.
