McClenathan qualifies 13th

Las Vegas - Weather conditions for the first two days of qualifying for Sunday's SummitRacing.com Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway were good on Friday and marginal on Saturday.

Cory McClenathan's best qualifying time, 4.581 seconds in the Carrier Boyz Racing Fram Top Fuel dragster, came Friday night in cooler temperatures. Saturday's temperatures were warmer and the air more humid, slowing the car's performance. McClenathan starts Sunday's NHRA POWERade Series event from the No. 13 berth and races Top Fuel newcomer Whit Bazemore (No. 4, 4.498 seconds) in opening round.

"Weather reports for Sunday say the temperatures are going to be cooler, a lot like they were on Friday," said McClenathan. "That could be beneficial to us because we ran better when track conditions were cooler.

"The good news is we are in the show. Some good cars didn't get in, including Doug Kalitta, who had his Top Fuel qualifying streak end at 164 races and John Force's amazing qualifying streak of 395 ended. At least we have the opportunity to win Sunday."
