Matt Smith

It says in the article that Smith tried to start it back in the pits up until the finals and never got it started. Exactly how long did he want Arana to wait? Bad sportsmanship there by Matt, in drag racing you are supposed to be ready when you are in the staging lanes PERIOD! He had problems twice and he did throw Karen off her game. I think you need to step up if you screwed up and not blame everybody else. Just my 2 cents.

You hit the nail on the head, Matt I know you post on here and are probably reading this, but i'm gonna have the balls to say it as close to your face as physically possible. I respect you as a racer and your damn good at what you do BUT you can't be acting like this cause he did what you asked and it's not even up to Arana to decide how long he is gonna wait. Rick came to him, motioned him in; now if he argues with Rick and does not go in, who says that Rick would of just gave Phillips a bye in the final and DNQ'ed the both of you? Karen did what she was suppose to and even more than that. Now you come to the line with the same issues again? Rick probably had no patience for that as his job is to not delay. Everyone did their job but you when your getting all pissed at the wrong people. Know who you should be pissed at? Your bike's mechanical issue

I'll back Sr up on the fact that Jr sat there and watched them trying to start the Smith bike until Stewart walked over, got Jr's attention and motioned for him to stage it. I say that because I wondered how long Jr was going to sit there and let him motor heat up. Then Stewart walked over and I thought to myself "OK, that long."

Who would have thought there would be drama involving Matt Smith?

Hilarious!
Definitely seems to be a pattern there.

I watched it again last night just to be clear.
Jr. gave Matt more than a fair sportsman's chance.

He sure lost any respect that I've had for him after reading this.

You're just a crybaby Matt, brought a broken bike to the line (twice), yet it's someone else's fault? Come on dude, walk away with some damn dignity!

Judging from the PM's and emails I got after my disagreement with Matt a few years ago, the only people who are surprised by the drama are ones that don't pay much attention to Motorcycle Dragracing.

There is a tendency on BB's like this, to give a pass and fawn over "pros" that will stop in and post. Obviously, in this case, Matt has lost that free past here on this board (at least for now) but if he had been looked at the same as anyone else, and judged as a regular dude, ya'll would have had plenty of $h!t to throw at him in the last few years. He was roasted on Psycobike a few years ago.

PSM is awesome, and it is my favorite class (with TD and TS close behind) I like the rivalries, the drama, and the personality conflicts. Love PSM for that. When Mike Phillips was on a roll last year, and ruffled some feathers, that was fun to see. I actually don't even care if Matt is crying about this issue right now, I think it is hilarious. But... I’m just saying I don’t like the guy.

To each his own I guess. I’m a die hard Karen fan!

Hector isn't required to wait for any competitor. Nothing says you have to wait, it is just good sportsmanship to do that. No matter when Hector started his bike, whether it be early, as Matt has stated, or later, as Hector Sr. has stated, the fact is he did wait at the line as long as possible before being told to stage. So whether he granted extra time to Matt up front before starting, or by waiting to stage as long as possible, the fact is he did give Matt time to get it started. It gets old listening to the same people cry all the time. The bike had issues all day. Get over it and fix the bike before you bring it to the line.

Next possible scenario from him will be...he'll be unable to attend an event for whatever reason, they'll still race without him, and then he'll be pizzed at EVERYONE!

Sad part is, I don't think he realizes that he's dead wrong on this one, and everyone sees it but him. Hopefully he'll man up after he does figure it out and apologize.

I think your 100% correct Bill, he doesn't realize he is wrong. Pretty sad, takes the word professional out of the equation.
