Matt Smith Will Start On Top Sunday In Houston

Matt Smith captured his third career No. 1 NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle starting position this weekend at Houston Raceway Park. Never winning a round at Houston, Smith is determined to change that this weekend.

Qualifying was cancelled on Saturday due to rain, Friday however was a different story. Running a 7.013et at 188.44 mph during the first session on Friday, Smith was in the No. 3 position going into the second and what would be the last qualifying session of the weekend.

Smith was one of a few to make a big move in the second Pro Stock Motorcycle session. Setting a new track record of 6.968et at 191.76mph on his Torco Race Fuels Buell, Smith moved up to the No. 1 spot.

“We hurt one of our motors in the first qualifying session and we’re still able to qualify third quickest" stated Smith. “I knew we could run quicker than what we did, but we were thrashing to get up to the line in time due to changing motors. So I was pumped up when I heard that what we ran. We are ready for Sunday and are hoping to keep this hot streak alive.”
