Matt Smith 4th quickest at Super Nationals; meets David Hope Sunday
Matt Smith was wearing a smile Saturday in his Al-Anabi Racing Pro Stock
Motorcycle pit area after he produced the quickest run of the final NHRA
SuperNationals qualifying session – 6.951 seconds at 190.92 mph. More
importantly, the effort yielded vital tuning information on the hot, humid racing conditions that are expected for Sunday’s eliminations.
His Friday night quarter-mile lap at 6.901 seconds at 192.60 put him
fourth in the starting lineup.
“We also picked up three additional qualifying bonus points,” said Smith,
who now is 14 points out of second place. “It was a good pass. It came
on a hot greasy track and we were able to get a hold of it.
“We worked late Friday night making changes and everything paid off.”
He meets David Hope (No. 13, 7.004 at 186.89) in the first round.
