Matt Smith and his Nitrofish Buell are headed into Houston Raceway Park this weekend for the O’Reilly NHRA Spring Nationals. The 2007 Champ is sitting third in the Pro Stock Motorcycle point standings as of now, but hopes to change all that after this weekend.
Smith feels as if he has faired well so far this season. Even though Smith spent much of the off-season looking for a sponsor instead of trying to find power, Smith let the whole class know in Gainesville that he was for real and ready to back up his title.
Working hard in and out of the shop over the last few months, Smith let it all show last time out on the track and has all hopes of running at the top again this weekend.
“Houston should be interesting,” said Smith. “There has been a rule change since Gainesville and I’m not really sure why, but we will get down to the bottom of it once we get there. Other than that, we should be okay. We normally qualify well at Houston, but haven’t really gone too far on raceday there yet. I hope that stat changes this weekend.”
Smith made it to the semi-finals last time out and he has worked non-stop over the last two weeks to make sure he can run up front at Houston.
