Martin Preps for a Memorable Memorial Day in Tulsa

Racers in the Knoll Gas Nitro Jam Drag Racing Series will face a unique challenge this weekend, heading to Tulsa , Oklahoma for the inaugural Skull Shine Sooner Nationals. As the first visit by the IHRA’s premier division to America ’s heartland, most teams will have no information on the racing surface at Tulsa Raceway Park , with each competitor’s success relying on his or her ability to read the track and adapt their race car accordingly in order to extract the maximum performance.

Armed with a proven package in their state-of-the-art Pontiac Pro Mod, Harold Martin and the ACDelco Racing team are cautiously optimistic about their chances for this weekend, while at the same time welcoming the opportunity to compete in front of a new audience.

“Hopefully, we will all be on equal footing on this new Tulsa race track,” stated Martin. “I have had a few racers contact me to see what I thought about it, which I immediately flip back to them to get their opinion. Collectively, I don’t think we really know that much about it, so we are clearly entrusting our race programs to the IHRA to have provided us with another good race facility, allowing us to compete as normal, while simultaneously being prepared for any eventuality.

“It’s always exciting to go into a new area. The one thing we know about our drag racing fans is that they track us from around the world, so any time you have an opportunity to go into a new market, you know you’re going to meet race fans in person that have been following and supporting you. Our entire ACDelco Pro Mod crew is looking forward to greeting and getting to know our Oklahoman fans this weekend.”

Prior to the ACDelco crew’s arrival at Tulsa Motorsports Park, Martin will once again be giving back to the community hosting this weekend’s race, addressing students on Friday morning at the Tulsa High School for Science and Technology. Although he will be certainly urging those in attendance to apply for one of four scholarships to be awarded through the ACDelco/ Harold Martin “Pros Who Know” Scholarship program, the “EFI Wizard’s” goal will also be encouraging his audience to simply consider a career in the automotive technology field.

“Each and every day, while we are focused on the goals in front of us, you have to look ahead and think of our successors,” said Martin. “Clearly, it is exciting to not only go into the Tulsa area and compete, but to also go and speak to some students who could fit the mold of the next generation of automotive technicians, engineers and even motorsports participants. If the initial feedback we have received from the Tulsa High School for Science and Technology is any indication of the excitement and enthusiasm of their student body, it should really be a special visit.

“In addition to sharing the importance of having and pursuing your dreams, I also enjoy the question and answer sessions that we have afterward, where these intelligent students get the opportunity to ask me some tough questions. Thanks to the IHRA, this week we will be able to award the unique students with tickets to be a part of the race weekend. ”

Finally, while the primary focus this weekend will naturally be on the never-ended pursuit of speed, Martin and his crew will also take time to consider the reason for this traditional American holiday, honoring those who made the sacrifice to make our way of life possible.

“You can never thank those who have made the sacrifice enough,” stated Martin. “They are the cornerstone of our society, allowing us to lead the lives in the style we have. Truly, this weekend is a great opportunity for all of us to honor these individuals, showing them our respect and appreciation for everything they have done for us. Nothing would be more special for our team to salute them than to hold our nation’s flag next to our red, white and blue race car in the winner’s circle on Sunday night.”
