Torco Race Fuel's Joey Martin advanced to the AMS Promod Challenge point's leader position after defeating Shelly Payne in the Memphis make-up race at O'Reilly Raceway Park. This marks the fourth straight final round for Martin and team T.A.R.E. who have been a force to recon with since Bristol.
"I was definitely glad to see the win light for the team and Tim Tindle. I am a little dissapointed with the run, but hey; a win is a win," said Joey Martin. Martin entered the final round on the strength of impressive victories over previous point's leader Jay Payne, Rick Stivers, and Andy McCoy. Although the final round was not the best weekend pass, the team managed to run a 6.161, 232 to Payne's 6.424, 213.
The highlight of the Martin's round wins was the victory over previous points leader Jay Payne in the semi-finals. "Chuck Ford knew that it would take a good number to take Payne out, so he stepped up to the plate," Joey Martin said.
Martin still remains in the #4 spot at the U.S. Nationals at O'Reilly Raceway Park and will face the #13 qualifier Doug Palmer first round. Stay tuned to TareRacing.com for Same Day Coverage from the U.S. Nationals.
