Luck eludes Wilkerson in Vegas

Las Vegas, Saturday: Everyone hopes to be lucky when in Las Vegas, but luck can be very elusive. And it certainly eluded Funny Car pro, Tim Wilkerson this weekend at the ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Wilkerson had hoped to find some luck this weekend but it didn't happened and Wilkerson wasn't able to get his Levi, Ray & Shoup Chevrolet Monte Carlo into the show.

In today's qualifying, Wilkerson first ran a 5.032 at 300.26 mph. As he rolled up to the starting line for the final attempt, Wilkerson was sitting on the bump. Jim Head who was in the other lane was not qualified. By the end of the run, the two changed places, and Head bump Wilkerson out with his 4.816 over Wilk's 4.966.

"We've got a car that's moving off the starting line straight and true and everything like it's suppose to now," said Wilkerson. "I'm glad about that part of it, but the air changed today and we dropped a hole on every run today. It never made it past the second half with more than seven holes. We're just on the wrong side of the tune-up. We need to get it tuned up a little bit more.

"We're very upset about not qualifying, but that's part of it. Someone isn't going to qualify when there are more than 16 cars, but I'm tired of it being us."
