BRAINERD, Minn. – LE Tonglet turned Saturday’s first Pro Stock Motorcycle qualifying attempt into his quickest run and claimed the No. 4 starting position for Sunday’s Lucas Oil Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway.
His Nitro Fish/Tonglet Racing Suzuki GSXR was timed in 6.925 seconds at 191.54 mph – one-thousandth of a second quicker than his best Friday qualifying time – during four consistent runs.
“Everything seems to be coming around,” said Tonglet, who won the last race at Sonoma, Calif. “We are starting better here than we have at any other race lately. We changed motors and it was strong from the first pass.
“We are confident right now.”
His first-round foe is Angie Smith, whom he defeated in the final round at Chicago two weeks ago. Smith was 13th quickest at 6.992, 190.40.
