GRAND BEND, ONTARIO (June 23, 2009) – Round two of the Quick 32 Sportsman Series presented by NAPA Auto Parts takes place at the Grand Bend Motorplex June 27-28, and large contingents of Top Dragster and Top Sportsman race cars are expected to compete.

“Grand Bend is the home track to many of the Quick 32 Sportsman Series teams,” said Director of Operations Bruce Mehlenbacher. “There will be large car counts on both the Top Dragster and Top Sportsman contingent for this race.”

This new drag race series features racing at six events this year at several Ontario race tracks. The cars are divided into two groups, the Top Dragsters, and the Top Sportsman. They compete within their group for qualifying and eliminations, and then the top car in each group races in the final round to declare an overall event winner.

At present, after the series’ opening event at Cayuga Dragway, T.J. Schippling of Shakespeare, Ontario, leads the Championship Point Award Series Standings with this dragster and 337 points. Next are the dragsters of Todd Hope of Norwich, Ontario with 300 points and Spencer Hyde of Stratford, Ontario with 279 points.

Fourth overall and first on the Top Sportsman side is the team of Dave Bell of Grand Bend, Ontario and Mike Wagg of Waterdown, Ontario with their 1994 Dodge Daytona and 278 points. Kevin Wicke of Stratford, Ontario is next with his 2006 Dodge Stratus and 259 points. Paul Martin of Breslau, Ontario and his 1957 Chevy are sixth with 257 points, just one point ahead of Doug Cadman of Courtland, Ontario and his 1955 Thunderbird.

Dragster driver Melanie Simmons of Orillia, Ontario is next with 255 points. Michael Hinbest of Orangeville, Ontario is ninth with 240 points in his dragster, and Scott Wildgust of Wartburg, Ontario and his 1957 Chevy, also with 240 points.

The first of three qualifying sessions begins at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 27. Eliminations are set to begin at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday, June 28 at the Grand Bend Motorplex in Grand Bend, Ontario.
