Chicago may have been Frank Sinatra’s town, but Kenny Koretsky definitely prefers Las Vegas.
Koretsky will be in “one of my favorite cities,” for the Summitracing.com Nationals at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway and, perhaps, at some of the city’s gaming establishments.
“We are looking forward to getting back on the track,” said Koretsky, of Richboro, Pa. “We didn’t get many runs in Houston (due to rain that wiped out one day of qualifying) and we need to get back in the groove. I need more seat time.”
Koretsky committed to a full season of driving for team owner Greg Hill’s Indicom Electric/Nitro Fish Chevy Cobalt team and he needs to begin winning rounds on Sunday if he wants to be among the elite eight that will fight for the NHRA POWERade Series Pro Stock title. The Countdown to Eight encompasses the first 17 races and is followed by the Countdown to Four for four events and, finally, the Countdown to One for the final two races.
“We were happy to get in the starting lineup at Houston,” said Koretsky. “We want to qualify better – maybe in the top eight – at Vegas and go some rounds on Sunday.”
Koretsky was pleased with his first-round reaction time against top qualifier Jeg Coughlin in Houston, (.023-second leave to .048). “I was on top of my game at the line,” he said. But Coughlin drove past him to get the win.
“If Eddie (Guarnaccia) and Tomi (Laine, team crew chiefs) get the car to run consistently, we have a chance to win some rounds at Vegas.”
