Pomona, Calif. - Heading into the season-opening Carquest Auto Parts Winternationals in Pomona, CA, Kurt Johnson knew he would need to be on top of his game in order to contend in the highly competitive Pro Stock category. Therefore, prior to arriving at the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, Johnson and his ACDelco Racing team made 19 test runs in Las Vegas, fine-tuning the set-up on their Cobalt Pro Stocker. Their hard work paid off on Thursday, as Johnson powered through the quarter-mile in 6.666 seconds with a top speed of 207.82 mph to sit in the third position with three attempts remaining.
"I guess those 19 runs we made in Vegas certainly helped. We came here with a completely different tune-up from the one we left here with in November, and we made a pretty sweet run right out of the box. More importantly, it gives us something to work with. We'll take a look at the data, see what we need to fine-tune, and see if we can move our ACDelco Cobalt up a couple spots."
