ENNIS, Texas - Defending two-time NHRA Division 4 Top Alcohol Funny Car Champion Jimmy Jones and the Kelly & Jones Texas Tremor team will be looking to make a strong showing at their home track during this weekend's O'Reilly Fall Nationals presented by Castrol at the Texas Motorplex just south of Dallas. Jones, who scored a runner-up two years ago here, hopes to log his first national event win in front of his hometown friends and sponsors.
Jones, a Pharmacist from nearby Cleburne, Texas, enters the event hot off a runner-up finish two weeks ago at the Lucas Oil Series event in Shreveport, La. Homefield advantage is coveted in most sports, and Jones and co-owner Paul Kelly hope the same proves true in drag racing this weekend.
"This is our hometown race," said Jones. "Most of our sponsors and friends will be here this weekend. You always want to do the best you can, but when you're racing at your home track, you try just a little harder. We went to the final here in 2005, but it's always a tough race. There will be a lot of good cars here this weekend."
The Texas Tremor Team will debut new associate sponsor Skinz Wraps this weekend as well. Skinz Wraps recently completed a full truck and trailer vinyl wrap on the team's transporter, highlighting the team's 20+ years of racing in Top Alcohol Funny Car.
"We're very happy to bring Skinz Wraps on board," stated Jones. "They join our other associate sponsors Vistaplex Video Surveillance, Painless Performance, Royal Purple Motor Oil and Comp Cams. Hopefully we can make a good showing this weekend to reward their support of our team."
Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars, with two sessions followed by one final session Saturday afternoon. Eliminations begin with round one Saturday evening and conclude the event on Sunday.
