Jr. Funny Car?

At Norwalk this year, at the Toyota showcase in the midway, I noticed a scale model of a Toyota Funny Car, about the same size as a Jr. Dragster. Made me start thinking about if there were a Jr. Funny Car field for kids, running essentially the same engine but a small funny car body instead, I wonder if this would get more young kids into driving, assuming the cost isn't much more than a Jr. Dragster? What do you all think?

You mean like this?

The “Junior Roadster” was approved for competition in 2023.

I still say the JR program needs to have a 125 2cyl shifter Kart style setup for the older kids.
Require some talent other than just daddy's $$$

In theory a great idea, however it’s realistically approaching $25,000 to build one new, and there isn’t much of a market for used ones around because they are so new. Also, you are correct, they are just slightly more than the cost of a brand new JR Dragster. Don’t ask how I know. 🫣

Then add in your trailer, tow dolly, golf cart to tow it with, a few spare parts and it really starts adding up.

You can find deals on used dragsters of course depending on what you are looking for. Just like anything else in life, you get what you pay for.

I will say, the memories we’ve been able to make along the way have been incredible, and we still have a few years before they age out.

With all due respect, you don’t have a clue. Some of these kids are freaking good. I’m not just talking reaction times, I’m talking stripe driving as well. My kids are already better than I ever was, and that goes for quite a few kids around here. There are about a half dozen kids around here I’d call “next level”. I wouldn’t want to race them. There is some real talent out here any given weekend.

IHRA had jR Funny Cars years ago.
Yeah, NHRA has never allowed a flip top closed roof car. The newer NHRA allowed cars are open cockpit fixed body roadsters. They have also recently allowed left hand drive roadsters as well.

Interesting, wasn't aware of this. Jr. Roadster, I assume due to the open top. The name might hurt the marketing, I'd think Junior Funny Car would have better appeal; however, I hope it can take off and hope it does encourage interest from kids, would be good for the sport.

To heck with the Junior stuff. Try something different, a AA/Jet Outhouse. No need to visit the track restrooms any more, just crap on the fly. Thumbs up for the afterburner pops. LOL

Listen to the fans, would you? They didn't holler like that when Brittney ran 341mph.

Ignorant comment.

From when I raced Jr's in the late 90s and won two track championships to now, these kids are for real.

They can cut a maintain their cars, cut a light, play the big end, and most likely put you on the trailer 1st round.

Bit salty?

And put in launch with a clutch and hit shift points. Then you'll see how difficult driving would be.
Have you ever raced in a stick car or just stab it and steer it?

Look, we're talking about kids here, "Junior Dragster"...."Junior Comp" (although I think Jr. Funny Car would be a better name). Although I get your point, you first gotta get the kids interested in the sport BEFORE they become gear jammers. Cut 'em some slack.
