The third round of the NHRA Countdown to the Championship playoffs took Mopar® NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson to Maple Grove Raceway in Mohnton, Pa., near Reading, with the veteran falling in the first round on Sunday, Oct. 2.
Johnson, the No. 13 qualifier, faced off with Greg Anderson in the opening frame. The native of Greeneville, Tenn. got off the line first with a 0.018-second reaction time to his opponent’s 0.069-second reaction time. Severe tire shake forced Johnson to abort the run, thus ending his day.
Fellow Mopar-powered Pro Stocker Vincent Nobile, the No. 15 qualifier, used a starting line advantage to launch first against Ronnie Humphrey, though the rookie also had his pass cut short with a problem in the first round.
V. Gaines in his Mopar-fueled machine turned in an opening round run of 6.597-seconds at 210.05 mph, with a reaction time of 0.039-seconds, falling to his opponent Rodger Brogdon, who ran a 6.542/210.64, with a nearly perfect 0.001-second reaction time.
