Johnson Clocks in at No. 6 in Opening Qualifying at NHRA 4-Wide Nationals (1 Viewer)

Concord, N.C. (April 15, 2011) – Mopar® Dodge Avenger NHRA Full Throttle Drag Racing Series Pro Stock driver Allen Johnson jumped from No. 15 after the first round of qualifying all the way to No. 6 after his second attempt today at the VisitMyrtleBeach.com NHRA 4-Wide Nationals at zMAX Dragway in Concord, N.C.

Johnson and his J&J Racing team were no doubt less than thrilled with a 7.868-second elapsed time at 149.93 mph in his first qualifying run after his Mopar Dodge Avenger wiggled shortly after launching off the starting line. The Team Mopar veteran knuckled down for his second qualifying effort, notching a 6.586/210.21 pass to move to the preliminary sixth spot.

“We got unlucky today having the right two lanes for both runs. There is just no comparison to the left lanes,” said Johnson. “It was just out-of-control loose. I was skating all over the track. We had to go for it, because tomorrow might be iffy, weather-wise.

“It worked out. We would have lane choice on Sunday as of now, and that’s big, so hopefully we can maintain and build on it. We would like to have a chance to run down that left lane and move up.”

Young gun Mopar-powered Dodge Avenger Pro Stocker Vincent Nobile demonstrated once again that he’s a rookie to be reckoned with, taking the No. 7 spot on the strength of a 6.590/210.28 pass after the first two rounds of qualifying. Mopar-fueled Pro Stock veteran V. Gaines is No. 12, with a best run of 6.621/209.62, heading into the final two qualifying rounds tomorrow.
