BRISTOL, Tenn. (May 18, 2008) – Eddie Cannon of Johnson City, Tenn., was selected as the eighth NAPA AUTO PARTS Honorary Crew Member of the NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series season today at the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol Dragway.
Cannon was thrilled to have been chosen to be a part of the crew for a day on the NAPA AUTO PARTS Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car driven by Ron Capps. "I've been coming to Bristol for a long time and this is an awesome opportunity," said the 36-year-old employee of Auto Electric in Johnson City. "I do a little drag racing myself as a hobby, but this is a huge thrill for me. I'm nervous and a little overwhelmed, but this is going to be a fantastic experience."
The Tennessee racing fan enjoyed the opportunity of escorting the NAPA AUTO PARTS Dodge Charger R/T Funny Car to the staging lanes in the team's Dodge Durango tow vehicle during the first round of eliminations and then helped retrieve the car at the end of the track following the run. He also received a NAPA team shirt and met the entire NAPA AUTO PARTS Dodge crew.
Cannon was selected through a drawing by his boss at Auto Electric, Rob Rogers. "Each store in the Knoxville, Tenn., area set up their own system on how they gave tickets away," said Brian Hetherington, of Retail Sports Marketing, which handles the marketing for the 56 NAPA stores in the Knoxville area. "Everyone here at the track today was qualified to be the Honorary Crew Member and I selected the winner out of a drawing from a hat."
During the season the NAPA distribution centers at each event will have different criteria for choosing the people who are potential NAPA Honorary Crew Members.
