Memphis, TN (8/19/06) -– The start of a bad weekend for Joey Martin and the T.A.R.E. (Tindle Ashley Racing Enterprises) team ended during the final round of qualifying after Martin laid down a 6.222 @ 229.63 mph, taking the number one spot in the AMS Promod Challenge Shootout, presented by RPM depot. Martin and Matt Hagan ran identical elapsed times during the round, but one mph was the determining factor that put the team in the lead. This is the first time that the team has qualified #1 in 2006.
"Man, what a pass. Chuck Ford and the crew did an outstanding job preparing the car for the round. I knew that it was on a good pass when it left. Now we will just have to keep our head in the game tomorrow," stated Joey Martin.
"It's all good. I'm just glad nothing fell out of the car," stated Chuck Ford with amusement.
During the first round of qualifying, the team faced an ignition problem but still managed to make the field, running a 6.35. For the second round of qualifying the team was forced to abort the run after a minor oil leak was spotted by NHRA officials. Although this is the first time qualifying #1, consistency has been the key factor for the team. A fairly bad start in the season has completely turned around and now the team is in the fight for the 2006 Championship.
First round of the AMS Promod Challenge Shootout begins at 12:45 tomorrow. Stay tuned to TareRacing.com for updates.
