The thing that kills me about the "anti-reduction-of-power brigade" is that the naysayers are all circling the wagons around the theory of less fuel will cause more thermonuclear detonations. I know these folks are smart enough to know that if ALL THINGS ARE EQUAL and you have less fuel volume then, yes, the stage is set for more potential carnage. However, nitro being what it is will demand more than one single, simple change in order to effectively lower the output while keeping the happy parts within the confines of the blocks, heads, and blower cases. Top Fuel and Funny Car did not get to this point with one single component and it will take a gaggle of pieces to get the results NHRA is looking for. I would hope the talking heads would be wise enough to state that publicly instead of urinating on every idea that is proposed or even tested. How about this...if you shoot one idea down, you should be required to come up with a solution.
But, hey. Why should I really care...or why should anyone else? In fact, screw all of this. Keep everything the same. Instead of reducing power, NHRA should take all the constraints off the teams. Let them do whatever the heck they want. It's their money, right? Let them spend F1 dollars and use every bit of technology available to them to go faster and quicker than ever before. Why not? Let's just let them go wild and check the health of the sport in, say, five years. That's a much better plan.
In the meantime, I'll be spending my money over on the nostalgia side of the fence. Peace out.
