<P>(Sep. 19, 2008)ENNIS, TEXAS – Joe Baker is adamant that if he’s to deliver a world championship to R2B2 Motorsports, the time to make it happen is now.

This weekend’s NHRA O’Reilly Fallnationals, contested outside of Dallas, Texas, represents one of three remaining stops on the ten-race Jegs Pro Modified Challenge schedule.

Baker enters this event as the third ranked driver and trails by only 95 points out of first place. The first-year series runner admitted this weekend’s event is crucial to the team’s championship aspirations.

“We have got to go a few rounds at this event if we hope to have a chance at the title,” Baker said. “We have gone over the car with a fine-tooth comb, in order to make sure we have everything working the way it should. I am confident that we will do well this weekend.”

Baker is the pleasant surprise on this season’s Jegs Pro Modified Challenge tour with two wins [Gainesville, Houston] to his credit. The first victory came on his dime driving as an alternate invitee and the second as a substitute driver of team owner Roger Burgess’ classic Corvette.

The roads to victory were worlds apart in terms of pathway s to the winner’s circle. The Gainesville victory was one of extreme driving talent and a few lucky breaks. The Houston triumph was nothing short of sheer domination.

Baker, with the exception of the Houston event, has run much of 2008 as an independent driver lacking the major backing that most of the teams around him enjoy.

That status changed two races ago when Baker was invited to join the R2B2 Motorsports team as the second driver to Burgess. The time running as an independent hurt Baker in terms of points gathering.

Now a member of R2B2, Baker has the opportunity to make up for last time. From this point on, every event is just like Houston in terms of resources.
Clearly in catch-up mode, Baker be hunting and gathering ever single point that rolls his way from qualifying to eliminations.

Burgess will tend to business commitments this weekend and in doing so, has allotted every resource the team has to Baker’s championship efforts including the talents of noted tuner Chuck Ford.

“We will be throwing the resources from both cars into one this weekend,” explained Baker. “We’re hoping to do well.”
