[coverattach=1]Indiana team qualifies number one in Pro Extreme and paces field at Rockingham
DeMotte, Indiana – September 13, 2009 – Jason Hamstra’s trip to Rockingham Dragway for The National Guard American Drag Racing League's (ADRL's) Flowmaster Dragstock VI was a successful venture, as the 22-year old Pro Modified driver won the ADRL’s Pro Extreme title in front of a capacity crowd at the fabled drag strip.
“Our car was driving really smooth all weekend, it didn't spin the tires even once," said the driver of the supercharged 1968 Camaro. "Everything just went perfect for us here."
The win was Hamstra’s second for the year in the 10-race series. His first came back in April at the ADRL’s Hardees Georgia Nationals.
Hamstra was number one qualifier for the event with a 3.715-second, 205.10-mph, which posted the quickest 16-car field in ADRL history. Hamstra drove to a 3.761-second, 204.73-mph victory over Ken Walsh, who ran a 3.875-second, 196.04-mph lap with his Corvette.
This race also represented the final points-paying opportunity toward securing a qualifying position for the National Guard ADRL's unique Speedtech Battle for the Belts, which pits the top eight finishers in each of the series' five pro classes, including Pro Extreme, against each other in winner-take-all, championship-deciding playoffs at the upcoming season-ender in Texas.
With his win, Hamstra has a seventh-place points finish and a chance at a National Guard ADRL championship.
“That was our first priority when we arrived here," Hamstra said about this important opportunity. "Once we won our second round and knew we'd be in the Battle for the Belts we were able to relax a little and just go racing."
With his second win in Pro Extreme, Hamstra has proven that a clutchless car can be a successful entry in the popular class. The Hamstra's car is equipped with a Lencodrive Transmission and a Coan Torque Converter.
“We just tried to make consistent laps and the car is really fast,” Hamstra said of his performance, which included near-equal runs all weekend.
Jason’s father Kevin Hamstra, who is also crew chief with the team, said he was pleased with their performance at Rockingham.
“Everything went pretty good,” he said with a hint of understatement. “Right now we have the second fastest Pro Mod in the world.”
The elder Hamstra stated that the team has been concentrating on the popular ADRL meets, and the car and the team is tuned to the eighth-mile competition.
Aside from crew chief Kevin Hamstra, other team members include Andy Hixson, Phil Brunton, Justin Greer, and Jason's Mom, Karen Hamstra. The team also has help from Coan Torque Converters, Lenco Racing Transmissions, Snyder Motorsports and Hoosier Tires.
The next event for the Hamstra Racing Team is the ADRL season finale, the LenMar Motorsports ADRL World Finals V October 23-24 at the Texas Motorplex in Ennis, Texas.
