[coverattach=1](3-2-2009)Elma, NY – The decision to run the ADRL (American Drag Racing League) this season continues to look more and more like the right one for Mike Janis Racing and Jan-Cen Motorsports. A change of any sorts can lead to one questioning their decision, but after this past weekend’s performance those questions are falling to the wayside one by one.

It took a few hits but once the team from Elma, NY got their stride they knew they had some MONSTER POWER. Janis’ first full pass with his new Jan-Cen Screw Blower combo netted a 3.85 elapsed time at just over 196 miles per hour. The short time of .977 lead the team to believe there is a ton more in the Dan Page built Firebird.

“We’re on a bit of a learning curve here but we’re on the right track,” said team owner/driver Mike Janis. “We’ve been pretty conservative at the hit just so we can get to the other end. It’ll take some more track time to get her where we need to be, but we’re just making baby steps right now.”

Those “baby steps” improved the short time from the previous .977 to a slightly better .968 and the improvements continued at the other end when the scoreboards recorded a 3.801 at just under 199 miles per hour. Crewman Kevin Peters made note of the .968 short time, “She’s still a little soft”.

“It’s definitely not easy,” said crew chief Mike Janis Jr. regarding the teams new engine combination. “At first we were apprehensive but we’re getting a bit more comfortable with each hit. I think once we get some more data to build from we’ll be able to hang with the big guys in PX”.

After claiming their first Outlaw event trophy (Quickest and Fastest of the weekend) the team headed back to their Elma, NY shop to prepare for the long trip to Houston for the ADRL season opener March 6-7.

The ADRL Saftey-Kleen Dragpalooza V will take place at Houston Raceway Park in Baytown, Texas. Janis’ Jan-Cen (Monster Power) powered, Dan Page Built 67 Cynergy bodied Firebird will compete in the ultra competitive Pro Extreme (PX) class.

Jan-Cen Monster Power T-Shirts will be available at Dragpalooza V!
