Indycar chooses against indy race during labor day weekend

definitely got some respect, but there is other things to consider. if IndyCar would try and hold a race at IMS on labor day weekend, it might not do as good as it could because of several factors.
Hotel rooms already booked due to the US nationals, traffic congestion because a main route that is used to serve both tracks is Crawforsville road and the road does have some hotels on it. Plus several restaurants are busy due to the Nationals.
Plus, the locals (myself included) consider labor day weekend "nationals weekend"

True (not the unfortunately part) but that split really scewed the pooch for open wheel racing in America.

Champ Car v IRL was never a contest for me. Champ embraced road racing, and IRL thought Ovals were exciting. I watched Champ Car exclusively during the split except for the Indy 500.
Though it was a resounding failure (event organizers knew nothing about racing), and none of the drivers liked it (too bumpy, headaches after one lap), I always thought the San Jose train track jump was one of the strangest yet exciting "mistakes" ever.

Well yeah, I appreciate the respect as a drag racing fan. So glad that he pointed out that our cars go 330mph in a straight line. But he also pointed out that their racing is in "traffic" and what their drivers do is amazing. I agree that it's amazing, however, even though drag racing is straight line, a funny car or an out of control pro stocker wants to go any place BUT straight. That's the great equalizer.

I could care less about Indy ever since the split in the mid 90s. that screwed everything up, even though it's 1 again, it still doesn't draw me like it did back in the 80s/90s. It's turned into a 1 race deal, the 500 which is the only race that matters, I don't care about a race in Baltimore or Pocono, I remember the Meadowlands Grand Prix and that was good and Pocono back then, but now it's like, Indy 500 and everything else who cares.
Got that right! As much as the split in the `90s hurt their sport, they`re still light years ahead of NHRA in attendance and mainstream media exposure.

Same in my house! I love all motorsports but Indy still ranks highest to me.
Yeah the whole CART/IRL fiasco stunk but that's long been in the past and I've let it go a long time ago! Can't wait to see the race at Pocono

Exactly, that's the only highlight of the series, Who Cares about all the other events, back in the Day you had the Meadowlands Race like this one from 1989 even though the weather didn't bode so well.

Only at Indy and Long Beach ... at every other race on tour they would KILL for NHRA's weekend gate. At Vegas 2011, even with the $5 million bonus put up, there were less than 10,000 paid spectators (free tickets every where couldn't even get 25K in the gate). The race would not have registered on any media outlet if it weren't for Dan Wheldon's terrible accident. There were plenty of good seats available for this year's 500 (and you had the place to yourself on Pole Day), though the race day crowd was up from last year by most reports.

I was at Indy this year. (Checked one item off of my bucket list! ) The crowd was pretty good, although you could still see bare sections on some of the stands.
They had an issue with security this year. they ramped it up because of Boston, and thought they had things under control, but when the green flag dropped, there were still a lot of people on the outside trying to get in, and they were not happy campers. Said CEO was on the tube monday night with a very sincere personal apology to the fans, and said next year will be different. I think I believe him. I think he really meant it.
We got there really early so we had no problem.
