HINES COLLECTS 20TH CAREER NO. 1 QUALIFIER; EARNS TRACK RECORD AT ROUTE 66 RACEWAY
Krawiec Qualified for First Race in Joliet

JOLIET, Ill. (June 9, 2007) – Andrew Hines rode his Screamin' Eagle/Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson V-Rod down the quarter-mile surface at Route 66Raceway, setting the track record and earning the top qualifying position in one quick pass.

Hines, 24, recorded a 6.921-second pass at 193.65 mph for his first No. 1qualifying award of the season and 20th career award Saturday at the Torco Racing Fuels Route 66 NHRA Nationals. It was also the third career qualifying effort at Route 66 Raceway (2004-'05).

"The V-Rod is so fun to ride right now," Hines said. "The team did so much testing in the past few weeks and we've worked so hard to get caught up with the top of the field. The team is so pumped up because that last pass of qualifying was the best run we've made all season."

Hines will face No. 16 Michael Phillips in the first round of Sunday's eliminations. Teammate Eddie Krawiec rode his Screamin' Eagle V-Rod to the No. 13 with a 7.037 pass at 190.46. Krawiec will face Angelle Sampey in the first round.

"I'm feeling good and comfortable and it's obvious we're learning a lot this weekend and we're bringing some great consistency to our program," Krawiec said. "I'm working on calming myself down and trying not to override the bike. I want to let the bike make its way down the track and make the run as smooth as possible."

This is the first time Hines has earned the No. 1 qualifier award since the season finale of the 2006 season – the November event at Pomona (Calif.)Raceway.

"We're just happy for the team because they worked so hard during the past few weeks," Harley-Davidson Racing Manager Anne Paluso said. "Testing has paid off and it's especially nice to make those great passes in front of all of the employees from Harley-Davidson who have made the short drive from Milwaukee to see the team race."

Hines was the runner-up at Route 66 Raceway in 2004 and is looking to win four rounds this time.

"The bike is really responding to the changes we've made and it's deadly consistent," Hines said. "We've always struggled with getting the bike off the line and our 60-foot times have been improving this weekend. The 60-foot run can make or break a run and it's great that we've made some strides with that. It's especially fun riding this V-Rod right now."

Krawiec joined the team this season. It's his first time racing at Route 66Raceway.

"I'm so glad we qualified and we get to race in the eliminations because it's a tough field," Krawiec said. "We have to be consistent and quick tomorrow but I'm looking forward to going rounds."

Once the NHRA race is over, the Screamin' Eagle team will travel to Milwaukee to visit Harley-Davidson headquarters. Hines and Krawiec will first be joined by their Screamin' Eagle AMA Flat Track teammates, Kenny Coolbeth, Jared Mees, Bryan Smith and Joe Kopp to help launch a summer meals program for kids. Fueling Young Minds provides meals for kids during the summer months when school is not in session. The Screamin' Eagle racers will be at one local school – Bethune Academy - to help kick off the program.

Shortly after that the racers will be at Milwaukee Children's hospital to pass out gift bags for the admitted child patients.

On Tuesday the team will be at Harley-Davidson headquarters, greeting employees, answering questions and racing employees on the V-Rod dyno bikes that are part of the interactive Acceleration Nation display that travels to all 23 NHRA POWERade events.

All the action of the Torco Racing Fuels Route 66 NHRA Nationals can be seen on ESPN2 with three hours of final eliminations coverage on Sunday at 4 p.m. ET). NHRA Race Day – a live magazine show filmed at the track – can be seen on Sunday at 11 a.m. (ET), also on ESPN2.
