LAS VEGAS (October 29, 2007) – In the ten race AMS Pro Mod Challenge season which was highlighted by his six wins and eight semifinal or better appearances, Josh Hernandez knew his luck would eventually falter, and it happened in Vegas.
After blasting to a No. 2 qualifying position with a 6.031/239.06, Hernandez faced off against Kirk Kuhns in the first round of eliminations. As the lights flashed, Hernandez left .044 seconds before the green, handing the win to Kuhns.
“Definitely not the way I wanted to end the year,” Hernandez said. “I was just thinking too much, and I let my focus get clouded. Once you start thinking about the lights and not just reacting, that’s when the problems start.”
“It’s a law of averages, really, and I had a lot of great luck earlier in the season. I just hate it for Howard [Moon] Tommy [Lipar] and the guys, because they gave me a great hot rod, I just failed to do my job.
“It’s been a long year, and this won’t take anything away from the success of the season. We had an incredible year, and won the World Championship – and that’s what we’re focusing on now,” Hernandez said.
