LAS VEGAS NHRA Top Alcohol Dragster rookie "Dyno" Dave Heitzman will be looking to pick up his third-straight win on the divisional level during this weekend's Division 7 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series closer at "The Strip" at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. Heitzman enters the event after a several days of testing in the Skull Shine/Torco Race Fuels A/Fuel Dragster and hopes to that will put him one step ahead of his competition.
Heitzman, an employee of Torco Race Fuels in Decatur, Mich., realizes he is entering one of the, if not 'the,' toughest divisional events on the tour. The fact the race is the last divisional event of the year, the attraction of Las Vegas and the event is on the way for racers traveling to next weekend's AAA Auto Club Finals in Pomona, Calif., will bring many of the best racers in the country. Over 20 Top Alcohol Dragsters will be fighting to make the eight car field.
"We ran a best of 5.45 in testing, but the air was quite a bit worse than what we'll see this weekend," said Heitzman. "Hopefully that should step us right up. It certainly makes it easier as a driver when you have a man as talented as Tom Conway handling the tuning for you. This is going to be a tough race and there will be no slack. We'll just have to stay focused on our jobs and see if we can put this Skull Shine - Torco Race Fuels hot rod in another winner's circle."
Fresh off a two week break, Heitzman hopes the chance to recharge will help as well.
"After being on the road for a few months, I was talking to [Team Owner]Evan [Knoll] the other night," explained Heitzman. "He asked me if the travel and time on the road was starting to get to me. I told him if I raced every weekend for about fifteen years straight, I might get burned out. I really live for this, and appreciate the opportunity I have to drive this hot rod. We have a new house in Decatur, so it's been nice to get a few weeks to get somewhat caught up at home. That being said, I'm ready to burn some rubber and nitro."
Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars, with two more sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideTopAlcohol.com for the latest news in alcohol racing.
