Heckel ready to hit the track in Shreveport

GILLIAM, La. - After a 12 week break in the action, NHRA Competition Eliminator driver Shane Heckel is excited about returning to action at this weekend's Division 4 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Red River Raceway just outside of Shreveport, La. His only regret is not being able to stay at home and race with his daughter, Brooke, who is near clinching the Jr. Dragster Track Championship at Houston Raceway Park.

Heckel, who helps run the family business Triple H Car Ports, in La Porte, Texas, feels his B/Dragster combination will be well suited for the hot conditions forecasted for the weekend. Heckel's Ballistic Racecraft chassis is powered by a Pro Stock style 500 cubic inch Chevy powerplant built by Taylor Lastor of TRE Engines. Heckel currently holds both ends of the national record in B/Dragster.

"We're all ready to go back out," said Heckel. "It's been a while since we've raced, and we feel like we have a fast hot rod, so we're excited about hitting the track. I've been doing a lot of Jr. racing with my daughter Brooke, who is really doing well. I hate the fact I'm not going to be able to race with her this weekend, but that's the way the schedule shakes out."

Heckel is also excited about the bonus money available to racers in Comp Eliminator this weekend. The Division 4 Comp Shootout Bonus Fund awards an additional $6,000 to the existing NHRA payout. On top of that, the Roof-Tec "Luck of the Draw" bonus is up to $7,000 going into this event. A qualifying position is randomly selected prior to each event, and if the competitor that qualifies in that spot wins the event, they win the bonus. If the bonus is not claimed by the season-ending event in Noble, Okla., the winner of the event will take the $8,000 bonus.

"There's some serious change on the line this weekend," stated Heckel. "It really makes you feel good to have sponsors behind the series to make it better for the racers. We have some new things we want to try this weekend. Hopefully we can have a good outing, pick up some points and make a good showing for our sponsors Ballistic Racecraft, TRE Engines, MBE Cylinder Heads, Goodridge Hoses and Fittings and InsideCompRacing.com."

Qualifying begins on Friday with two sessions, followed by two sessions on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday. Stay tuned to InsideCompRacing.com for the latest news in Comp Racing.
