Noticed these on upswept dragster headers. Are they just there to keep the crap out of the pipes?

I think that people put them on just the annoy the $hit out of people! Clank...Clank...Clank...Clank...Clank...Clank...Clank...Clank...Clank...Clank...Clank...Clank...Clank...Clank...Clank...Clank...Clank...Clank...Clank...Clank...Clank...DAMN!

O, sorry. Yes, they do keep crap out of the pipes. We have covers that go on our fueler after a pass. The hot slicks pick up anything it runs over and throws it as the car is moving. With a cover on the pipe, you won't lose an eye from the rocks flying out of the pipes when the car starts.

Greg,

Justin is right... You do need header covers to tow up to the line and back from the big end... unless you drive your Hot Rod to and fro... (which you do if I recall...)

;)

It's also a good idea to cover your air intake (injectors, hat, scoop, etc.) and fuel tank vent if you have one. I had a local guy make a leather cover for the fuel tank vent and hat for the fueler.

I was joking about the flappers. I have zoomie covers i put on (or try to) after each pass. I don't drive up or back, no water. :)
