Hawley Brings his Best Mental Game to Team Torco

POMONA, Calif. – If a given professional driver’s performance was to improve by only one or two percent, the results of each race could change dramatically. According to NHRA Official Drag Racing School founder and multiple-time world champion Frank Hawley, a driver who is consistent and focused on "the little things" can see improvement that can make the difference between a top-ten finish and a championship. The drivers and teams sponsored by Evan Knoll and Torco Racing Fuels are counting on Hawley's training as part of their march to victory in the 2007 NHRA POWERade Drag Racing Series.

Hawley has been retained for the 2007 season to work specifically with Knoll's teams in order to provide a mental advantage on the race track and in the pits, according to Knoll. Included in the training will be the teams of Mike Ashley, Melanie Troxell, Clay Millican, JR Todd, Morgan Lucas and Dave Connolly.

"I'm really excited to be working with Evan and his teams," Hawley said. "We're going to be concentrating on every aspect of racing, from the physical, mental and even spiritual perspectives.

"We’ll work on a number of areas that will help drivers increase their consistency and improve their performance. It doesn't matter if it's a veteran driver or a rookie - the principles are the same.

"With a fair amount of testing and time, we'll identify new processes of thinking - not for making changes so much but for creating a transformation. A new process," he said.

Funny Car driver Mike Ashley said, "Frank really helped me last year as I worked through improving my reaction times. He showed me a different way to look at the driver reaction time as compared to the car reaction time, and how I can control and improve both numbers. He's really a master teacher, and I'm excited to work more with him this season."

Hawley said, "Evan has made sure that the teams he sponsors have the very best technology and hardware. I work on the software that gets the cars down the track - the drivers - and giving an advantage.

"I'm proud to be a part of the Torco team, and am looking forward to an incredible year," he said.
