Harold Martin Set for Return to NHRA Ranks in Las Vegas

Harold Martin and his ACDelco Pontiac Racing team will make a return appearance in the AMS Staff Leasing Pro Modified Challenge this weekend, entering the ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals in Las Vegas, NV. In his most recent outing at an NHRA-sanctioned event two years ago at the U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis , IN , he made the most of the opportunity, capturing the No. 1 qualifying position and defeating an all-star line-up en route to a runner-up finish. This weekend, he will look to ascend that final step and claim his first NHRA winner’s trophy.

“We’ve always loved racing in the NHRA, going to their tracks and being a part of their family,” said Martin. “It’s something we look forward to, and our ACDelco Pontiac team sees this weekend in Las Vegas as a great opportunity. The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway is a tremendous facility, and the ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals have traditionally drawn a tremendous crowd, so we’re looking forward to meeting the fans and putting on a great show for them.”

Naturally, there will be several obstacles between Martin and the Nevada winner’s circle. As the final event of the Pro Mod season, a full field of top-flight AMS Series regulars is expected to be on hand, each with the same goal of winning. In addition, this will only be Martin’s second race at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, potentially limiting the tuning notes he will have at his disposal. Finally, with only three qualifying sessions scheduled, he will have to accelerate his learning curve and make the most of each run in order to secure a position in the final eliminations field.

“Running a nitrous program in the Pro Modified category, the biggest challenge at every race is competing against the blown (supercharged) cars, who enjoy a performance advantage,” detailed Martin. “However, we’re not going to worry about that, preferring instead to keep our focus on our racing program, making sure we perform at the best of our abilities. We’re going to race the racetrack, and do whatever we need to ensure our ACDelco Pontiac performs at its very best. If we do that, the rest will take care of itself.”

However, there is added motivation for Martin to do well, as he will have the support of the nearly 5,000 ACDelco distributors and customers expected at the track this weekend. Buoyed by such a tremendous outpouring, Martin and his entire Martin Motorsports crew are ready to tackle whatever is thrown their way this weekend.

“We see the ACDelco Las Vegas Nationals as a family reunion,” said Martin. “Racing at your sponsor’s race gives you the chance to be around your extended family and all those who help make this dream possible, and I relish the opportunity. I’m really looking forward to being a part of ACDelco’s event in Las Vegas .

“To race in front of such a large gathering of ACDelco customers, distributors and employees doesn’t add pressure, it adds to our desire to do well, so we can give them something we can cherish together. Nothing would be more special than to have a win at this event.”
