Harker ready to get back in the saddle in Bowling Green

BOWLING GREEN, Ky. - After taking a two and a half month break to handle business matters back home in Australia, NHRA Top Alcohol Funny Car driver Steve Harker is ready to get back in the saddle during this weekend's NHRA Division 3 Lucas Oil Drag Racing Series event at Beech Bend Raceway Park in Bowling Green, Ky. Harker hopes to use the event as a warm-up for next weekend's Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Indy, the biggest event in all of drag racing.

Harker, originally from Brisbane, Aus., but now from Gainesville, Ga., enters the event tenth in national points and third in Division 4 points. He will also be debuting a new 2006 Chevy Monte Carlo body this weekend.

"We went back home to Australia for a bit to handle some personal business," said Harker. "While we were gone, we had S&W Racecars mount a new Monte Carlo body for us. It's a newer style design and hopefully we can pick up a little speed over our other body. We didn't have time to get it painted, so it's still 'battleship grey.' This weekend we're just hoping to get settled in the routine again and prepare for Indy next weekend."

"We still hope to do well here this weekend," Harker continued. "The car was running very well when we left in June. We need a good showing to stay in the top ten in national standings."

Qualifying begins on Friday for the alcohol cars, and concludes on Saturday. Final eliminations will conclude the event on Sunday.
