I just had to post these photos shared by Gary Ormsby Jr. I found them fascinating! His first time driving a TF car and get this- No wing and channeling the header blast through a wing/deflector to create downforce. He didn’t remember the car owner, but Johnny West was helping them out. He only ran it 3-400 feet and it didn’t last long at all. Enjoy.

In the late '80's, Gene Snow experimented with "dual element" headers, for the lack of a better term. The second section was a larger diameter with an air gap between the two. It was thought that the exhaust flow would pull air into that air gap and make downforce. This was in the era that he tried a short rear wing, a canopy, and high gear only. Only one of those worked...
