Gulfway returns as PMRA Special Award sponsor for 2008

“The PMRA is a great series, and we’re pleased to be able to contribute to its growth”

BAYONET POINT, FLORIDA (February 19, 2008) – The Pro Modified Racing Association Presented by Torco Racing Fuels Ontario is pleased to once again have the support of Gulfway Insurance.

“The PMRA is a great series, and we’re pleased to be able to contribute to its growth,” stated Gulfway’s Mel Eaves. “Pro Modified racing is very popular and Gulfway is glad to be on board.”

Gulfway will be providing bonus money for Best Reaction Time and Round Winner at all 2008 PMRA events.

Eaves is no stranger to racing. Gulfway is a leader in specialized auto insurance, focusing on motor racing. Eaves, who has competed in several types of racing, knows and understands the issues when it comes to insurance for the motorsport industry. His racing career spans several decades of off-road racing, road racing, and, for the past several years, drag racing. Starting in Super Gas, Eaves worked up to Top Sportsman and Pro Modified, along with campaigning a Nitro Coupe from his Florida base.

“Mel has been with us from the very beginning, and his continued support is gratifying,” said PMRA Director of Operations Bruce F. Mehlenbacher. “As a racer himself, Mel knows how the business works, and can provide solid, proven insurance coverage in the racing world.”

Gulfway offers the most extensive coverage available. At Gulfway, a client is insured by a nationally-licensed US-based insurance company with specific policy applications. This means a client is not part of a master policy and does not have to join a group for coverage. Gulfway is licensed in each US state by the state’s insurance regulator, and must meet all legal requirements of each state.

Aside from comprehensive coverage in the US, Gulfway offers insurance services in Canada, and Puerto Rico, and has provided insurance for autos in Japan, Brazil, Manila, England, Australia, Norway, Finland, Aruba, China, Finland, Argentina and others. Claims in these areas are handled by local claim representatives of your insurance company.

But, most importantly, no matter where you live, Gulfway has a staff that understands racing and a racer's needs.

PMRA tour stops in 2008 include two dates at Toronto Motorsports Park in Cayuga, Ontario, Dunn Tire Raceway Park in Lancaster, New York, Sanair in Quebec and the Southwestern Ontario track of Grand Bend Motorplex.

Negotiations are underway with several US race tracks based in Michigan, New York, Ohio and Pennsylvania with the plan of presenting a seven-event PMRA drag racing series this season.

About the Pro Modified Racing Association (PMRA):
The Pro Modified Racing Association, Pro Modified Racing Association, was organized late in 2004, started racing operations in 2005, and is entering its fourth year of operation. The PMRA is a self-governing organization with input from its teams, and adheres to the technical and safety rules as outlined by the International Hot Rod Association (IHRA) and the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA). The series has event venues in Ontario, Quebec, and New York State.

Cars in the PMRA capture the true spirit of hot rodding, and the class is one of drag racing’s most exciting and colorful classes, offering a diverse group of race cars with different types of 2,500-horsepower engines.

No Pro Modified team has dominated in the history of PMRA events. In 2005, 2006, and 2007, each event was topped off with a different winner, and 2006 Grand Bend Motorplex winner Joe Boniferro became the first repeat winner in series history, winning the 2007 Grand Bend race.

Combining classic body styles and modern equipment, constructors are permitted, within established rules and parameters, to modify and enhance the cars in both appearance and performance. The cars are fuelled by gasoline or methanol, propelling them down the quarter-mile in low six-second times at over 200 miles per hour. The PMRA provides drag race fans the opportunity to see, hear, and experience the popular Pro Modifieds, known as "the world's fastest door slammers".
