Wow. I can't imagine what you would think about the ladder games guys play in Stock and Super Stock...
Wasn't it last year(Peter Biondo I think) follow the only guy that could pass him in the points for the super gas title to the staging lanes(random pairings in super classes 1st round) and beat him 1st round to clinch the championship?

I think it was a brilliant idea! These guys are in the big leagues, so teamwork is essential. Especially now!

I've NEVER been a fan of lying about laying down (i.e., Force/Hight). Connie Kalitta said it be backin 1994 I believe it was. He was racing Scott and they both came to the line, the tree dropped and Connie stayed right there...Scott got the win.
They asked Connie why he did that and he looked right at the interviewer like, DUH! "Scotts in the championship hunt and I'm not"....no one asked again after that :D

Patrick,

Greg isn't thinking he is going to win the championship at this point. But he can help Jason win it IF he can get to A.J. early and beat him. So G.A. tries to get into a position to race A.J. Before Jason made his #1 qualifying run, Greg was in positon to race A.J. 2nd round, assuming they both won 1st round. Greg had lane choice in the first round, the only thing he was giving up was the little points for qualifying.

It didn't work, but it was an good plan, at least I think it was.

Alan

Me too. I've been part of a comp team where late in the season one car was used to help another car win the championship. The other car would have done the same thing if the role was reversed.

and I respect that he is honest about it at least. Not every team owner can claim that

NHRA has rules that say you can't be honest about team orders...if Connie was in the same position today he couldn't do the same things he did in the past

not so sure Connie would care, but you do have a point

Both of the Summit cars will probably be ropeadoping the final two races. AJ has a 82 point lead, virtually a 5 round lead with 8 rounds left. AJ will qualify very well but could leave a couple of bonus points on the table. This thing could get very tight but I like AJ's chances better than the Bell Brothers,Ding & Dong. I'm betting V. got a big hug from AJ.:D How bout that perfect 10 by Ronnie Humphrey?:p

So lemme make sure I understand.

1. NHRA allows multi-car teams but has an unenforceable rule against "diving."

2. There are quite a few folks who can't stand team orders (diving) and prefer teammates to race straight up regardless of the points implications.

3. Greg Anderson, Jason Line's teammate, is all but eliminated from championship contention.

4. In an attempt to "legally" assist his teammate, he (GA) does his best to align himself against Jason's competiton during qualifying with the hope of beating Allen Johnson (whom I happen to be rooting for, by the way) heads up, thus opening the door for Jason to gain ground.

Does that about sum it up? If so, I call that strategy within the rules, and quite frankly, I applaud GA for trying. Strategy is a part of competition in any sport so I don't understand what the problem is. Did it work? No, but kudos to him for trying.

You can please some of the people some of the time...

I correct my statement. It is business. I still don't like it. Thank you Cheryl and Andy, it's respectfully a business.

Re: # 1 & 2

Personally, if you don't do what is in the TEAM'S best interest, then you are not a member of the TEAM... It just dawned on me... DSR is 4 FC teams under one roof, JFR is 1 FC team with Four cars. one for all, and all for one.

If I'm the guy with the M79/M203, I'm going for that pill box...
SEABEE= (rap feed, beer cooled, automatic screwing machine...
Whatever it takes to get the job done;)

This probably is truest + wisest statement on the internet all week.:)

Very well said, Shipmate.

It could definitely be argued, and in fact has been on this very site, that from a fan's perspective DSR and JFR have two entirely different "business" philosophies. I certainly enjoy knowing that when two DSR cars pull into the water box on raceday, I know each team is trying to rip the other's throat out from burnout to turnout, as Jack Beckman would say.

Conversely, whereas I don't have anything negative to say about JFR - the man built an empire from absolutely nothing and is obviously doing extremely well - I also don't know what agreements he has with his sponsors, and it's none of my damn business. As much as I'd like to think these teams' #1 priority is impressing me with their performance and "fairness", I do understand that they're responsible to their sponsors first and foremost.

Lastly, and in suport of the theme of this thread, I feel the same way about the Summit boys that I do about DSR. Sure, they obviously want to help each other when and where they're able, but when they race each other, it's a heads up affair, if for no other reason than they share the same primary sponsor so they can't lose.
