Don't like it and I think it's a jackass strategy. Just have a good car and try and beat AJ straight up at any time on Sunday instead of trying to ruin qualifying runs by shutting down early and hoping for a bottom half spot. I have heard it's not a huge affect on the E.T. but IMO it's just stupid all the way around. Why is he even concerned with AJ when he's not even close to him in points? I would keep trying to attack who's directly ahead in points, not just jump for the gold. Another reason Greg's just not gaining any populartity.

I understand this is based off of opinion only and you are welcome to yours. The logic behind having the best car and letting the cards fall where they may is... Greg is already 224 points behind. In order to make it up, you have to use the little points to your advantage, and hope to get it under 220. However, he is in the position of needing AJ to go out round one or DNQ, and Greg make the finals or win all the remaining races, or use a record. If you let the cards fall where they may and AJ goes rounds, Greg is out no matter what he does. You have to play the strategy in your favor and take them out early where it benefits you the most. You have nothing to lose, as if they met in the early rounds and AJ beat Greg, no big deal, Greg was already done. I've done it many times playing the NHRA game for the computer or the PS2. You also have the team aspect. Maybe Greg can't save himself, but he can help Jason Line. Since tomorrows strategy screwed up, if Allen Johnson leaves here more the 300 points ahead of Greg, he's mathematically eliminated. If Allen Johnson leaves here more than 120 points ahead of ANYBODY it's realistically over. There just aren't enough rounds left.

I like it. At this stage in the game, options are running out. AJ needs to go out early for Greg to have a shot. Might as well take matters in your own hands!

Ol' Daddy Warbucks don't like being in 5th...he's gonna wreck the playground, take his ball and go home!;):D

I don't understand what you hate about it Patrick. Jason is second in points and has a good car. Greg is a long ways back. If Greg can get AJ early and beat him, then Jason has a real shot at the title. And G.A. was running past the 1000' so he was learning everything there was to learn from the early numbers.

P.S. Before Jason made the last run A.J. (4th) and G.A. (5th) could have been a second round match up. G.A. would have had lane choice in the fisrt round, what don't you like about it?

This right here. Anderson has a mathematical, but no realistic, chance at the title. Line does. If this were eliminations I might have a bit of a problem with it. In qualifying, I don't care if he drives the car backwards with one leg hanging out the window. There's no rule that says you have to leg it 100% every time.

Looks to me like Greg didn't shut it down early enough in the last session as he improved a couple places and now has to race his teammate in the semis if he gets that far. Another dive coming? AJ has both Erica E and Dave C on his side of the ladder so he won't have an easy time of it. He's got to take out Dave Connelly before he could face Erica in the semis, assuming she gets that far also. This is DO or DIE time for AJ and Ron Capps, but especially Ron.

From Greg's standpoint who would you think of a better chance of taking Greg out early a summit car of some guy who only gets into the bottom of the field most races?

His only chance to catch up, or for Line to is to take AJ out early, so he makes himself the hitman. Makes perfect sense.

Maybe there is a simpler explanation?

Anderson has had major engine damage at the last couple of races and may be click it early to verify their fixes. By “dumping early” you save a lot of valve train carnage, if it is still wrong.

I know a good conspiracy theory is fun, but maybe not this time?

But Jason is.... Team

Yea, but Jason's had a better car all year. He could take AJ out and is more than capable if he's awake at the tree, he's very inconsistant this year, tho it's an improvement from his usual always late.

I understand the strategy, I just dont like it. Last I checked Greg would need to go to the final at worst and have AJ go out round 1 each race just to catch him and that's a tall bargin. I understand it, I am just a fan of using all your power and letting the chips fall where they may. Let's say they did meet first round tomorrow and he loses, then he's in a worst situation than playing no games at all. I feel the strategy should only come in to play when your in 2nd place and it's your last shot and you trail no one in the points but the 1st place team.

This is not the case. He's got Enders, Nobile, Line, to contend with AJ is the least of his issues. He's on the brink of being mathmatically eliminated, I don't believe any team in the history of our sport won the title when they reached the point of being almost knocked out of it. Best I can think of is Shoe being down 336 points in 06 and he won the title, yet at the point he was 336 down there were still about 1500 points left on the table.

Reminds me of another great Anderson, Arn Anderson. Mental strategy. Get to your opponent by any means necessary to ensure the team win. The Summit team is 2 gears working together as a unit for the greater good of Team Summit. Even though I loathe them. I admire them. This is far different from turning dead right at the US Nationals in 2009 cause the driver realized another US Nationals trophy for the rec room is not necessary.

I like the idea of working the ladder to help your teammate. It adds an element to a previously predicatable and boring class. Would you
like the strategy better if one of your favorites employed it?

Patrick,

Greg isn't thinking he is going to win the championship at this point. But he can help Jason win it IF he can get to A.J. early and beat him. So G.A. tries to get into a position to race A.J. Before Jason made his #1 qualifying run, Greg was in positon to race A.J. 2nd round, assuming they both won 1st round. Greg had lane choice in the first round, the only thing he was giving up was the little points for qualifying.

It didn't work, but it was an good plan, at least I think it was.

Alan

The Summit team was thinking outside the box and that is one of the things that makes them so tough. It didn't work this time, but it might work the next time.
