[coverattach=1]Pomona, Thursday: With one qualifying session complete at the 45th annual Automobile Club of Southern California Finals at Auto Club Raceway at Pomona, Pro Stock driver, Johnny Gray is pleased with the performance of his Dodge Stratus and is looking forward to doing it again tomorrow.

Under a golden California sun, Gray made a clean, straight run posting a 6.649 at 208.01 mph. With this being one of the better runs of the class, Gray ended the day in the lofty No. 4 qualifying position.

“It was a pretty good run,” explained Gray. “We were a little heavy on the clutch. We probably could have run a little quicker if we would have been closer on the clutch. But everybody else was a little bit off, too. It was the first run. When you come from Las Vegas down to Pomona here, you always think you need to put more clutch in it. But you just don’t need to put as much in it as you always think. It throws everybody off a little bit but all in all, as tight as the field is we’re one of four cars that ran quicker than .65 so we’re happy with it. We have a good starting spot and we think we know what to do tomorrow. We’ll wait to find out.”

There is one qualifying session scheduled for tomorrow. With similar weather conditions in the forecast, a good run today should be an easy repeat tomorrow.
