LAS VEGAS, Prerace: The NHRA POWERade Drag Racing season is winding down, with only two races remaining on the schedule. This weekend’s ACDELCO Las Vegas Nationals will bring fun and excitement to The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway. And Pro Stock driver, Johnny Gray is anxious to take his beautiful Dodge Stratus down the famed quarter-mile, in his quest to continue the recent success he has enjoyed.

Gray is fresh off of one of his best outings of the season at the Virginia NHRA Nationals. He ran the quickest and fastest run of his Pro Stock career and went to the semifinals. This is the kind of performance, Gray and his team has been looking for all year. So, they’re hoping to continue the momentum this weekend.

“We’re ready to do it again,” said Gray. “We’re excited with how well we ran in Richmond, but the air was killer and the track was killer so everybody was flying there. You know, everybody can be a hero in good air on a good race track, so it will be interesting to see what happens here. It’s going to be hot, so everybody is going to be geared different and everything will be a lot slower. We would like to think our car is going to go out there and fly. We tested well here in the beginning of the year and had a lot of fun. This is the first place a drove a Pro Stock since 1994, so we’re looking forward to getting out there again. We think we’ll run real good here.”

Joining Gray in competition this weekend will be his son, Shane running in Competition Eliminator. And since it’s an easy trip to Vegas from their Artesia, N.M. home, there will be a lot of support for the racing family.

“I’ve got my sister, brother-in-law and a bunch of friends coming out here,” Gray said. Both my son’s are here with their comp car and NHRA was good us. There was a pit spot on the end right next to us and they parked the kids there. So, we’re just out here to have a good time. I hope we’ll both enjoy a great weekend so it can be a big party.”
