Pleasanton, CA – After a recent trip to Firebird Raceway in Boise, Idaho for the 39th annual Nightfire Nationals, the Goodguys Racing team led by Marc Meadors can look forward with optimism after qualifying 7th in the quickest Pro Mod field in event history.
Racing for the first time at hi-altitude (5,500 feet) Meadors was able to take the big blown silver Camaro to a best run of 6.33 landing him in the seventh spot when qualifying was finished. Brett Williamson’s 6.09 led the field. With that 7th seed in qualifying, the Goodguys team had to race #2 qualifier John Scialpi in Sunday’s eliminations. After one of his cat-like reaction times, Meadors gained an early advantage in the race but couldn’t hold off Sciapli’s blue & white ’57 Chevy which took the victory in 6.24 seconds to Meadors’ 6.41.
After the loss, Meadors was able to pinpoint exactly what went wrong. “We simply went the wrong way with the tune up,” he said. “We kind of zigged when we should have zagged. We’ve run as quick as 6.16 so we know we can hang with the best, we just missed the tune up. Lesson learned!”
With that valuable racing experience under their belt, the team, including Jason Bunker, Jeff Accacian, Billy Fereira and Steven Bunker now head further east to an even higher altitude for the Super Chevy Show at Bandimere Speedway just outside Denver this weekend to compete in the “Nitro Coupe/Pro Mod” exhibition. The Goodguys Racing trailer is stocked with colorful new tee shirts as well as hero cards for the kids.
