Good final run pleases Connolly
Martino is first-round foe

Brainerd, Minn. (8/12/06) -- Dave Connolly waited until the last qualifying run Saturday to solidify a place in the Pro Stock starting lineup for Sunday's Lucas Oil Nationals at Brainerd International Raceway.

"We struggled this weekend," said Connolly after registering his quickest run of the weekend (7.772 seconds at 202.71 mph) to wind up 13th. It puts him against Tom Martino (No. 4, 6.762 at 203.00 mph. "That was fifth-best for the session and we still had some problems. We are happy with the run. I'm confident our Skull Gear Chevy Cobalt will be fast on Sunday.

"We should have been better but I shorted (short-shifted) it and that cost us time."

Connolly won his first Pro Stock race at BIR two years ago. He has won three times in this year (Atlanta, Topeka, Kansas and Denver. He is third in series point standings.
