(July 3, 2008) Boca Raton, FL - Next Generation Race Team is having to overcome diversity as its star driver, George Landis, suffered an accident in his shop, SRC Racing, while outfitting a vehicle with a high performance exhaust. "The H-pipe slipped and came down across my lower leg, completely severing the muscle right above the Achilles tendon," says Landis. After 6-7 weeks of complete immobilization of the foot, Landis' surgeon is expecting a complete recovery. "In the meantime, I've been rolling around in my wheelchair with a laptop doing engine tuning," laughed the good-spirited Landis.
Next Generation Race Team is moving forward with plans to compete their Dodge Stratus in the upcoming NMCA event in Joliet, IL, scheduled for July 17-20. Peter Farber of Worcester, Mass has been named replacement driver for this event, as Landis recovers and completes physical therapy. "Peter is a friendly competitor of ours in Pro Street, whom we respect a great deal," commented team owner Steve Quint. "Peter is awaiting delivery of a new car, and we thought he would be the ideal choice to drive for us at the Joilet event," added Quint.
Farber will join the team next week in Epping, NH, where a test session is scheduled. Not lacking an ounce of power, Steve Quint reports that their 526 c.i. blown Hemi from Oddy's Automotive is producing 300-400 more horse power from last year's combination. "Sorting it all out inside the bell housing has been the real challenge," commented Quint. Currently positioned 7th in NMCA Pro Street points, the team feels as though they've recently turned a major corner in clutch application. With 4 NMCA events remaining, the Florida-based race team plans to charge for the championship going down the final stretch of the season. The team is especially optimistic going into Joilet as they've experienced past success at Route 66 Raceway, scoring a runner-up finish at this same event in 2007.
