I have raced both of them, two true legends in drag racing. So glad they are still around to have fun. Don's opinion of Shirley changed after her accident and it healed their relationship.

Yes Cliff I did race Don in the final in 1987. I qualified #1 and had low ET all day. With out complaining and giving the details of the antiquated tree electrical system Bakersfield had at the time I red lighted in the final with a 3.98 RT on a 4 tents tree. and I didn't GUESS, Happens. I was leaving that team no mater what after the end of that race, the people involved where running the car on money that stunk. I packed my after the last run and said *Good By*. Some members of the team ended up in the gray bar hotel and some passed away of lead poisoning. . I enjoyed winning other races in top fuel with great honest people.
PS: months after the Bakersfield race my old buddy Leroy Goldstein gave me a RED basket with a red light bulb in it and a picture of Don that said THANKS Larry.
