Fuller Remains Sixth at U.S. Nationals

CLERMONT, Ind. -- NHRA point-leader Rod Fuller held his ground Saturday at the 53rd running of the U.S. Nationals at O'Reilly Raceway Park. Fuller remains sixth in the Top Fuel order in his MacAllister CAT car with two qualifying sessions remaining.

Entering the second day of qualifying at the prestigious Indianapolis event in the No. 6 position with a 4.524-second elapsed time on Friday night, Fuller used a tune-up from crew chief Rob Flynn to clock the fourth quickest run of Saturday's first session. Fuller drove the MacAllister CAT car to a pass of 4.650 seconds at 316.23 mph to remain sixth in the 16-car order. The five-time NHRA winner raced to a run of 4.706 at 239.14 on Saturday's second attempt. Fuller was on pace to record his quickest run of the weekend before a head gasket gave way on the motor forcing the Las Vegas racer to coast to the finish. "It was on a great run in the low 4.50 run or maybe even in the high 4.40s and it blew a head gasket," Fuller said. "It's better to happen today than Monday. The early numbers were great and we're excited about the run."

Top Fuel qualifying will conclude with sessions four and five scheduled for 12:45 and 3:40 p.m. (ET) on Sunday afternoon.
