Fuller is fastest at Indy test

INDIANAPOLIS (Aug. 23) -- "Hot Rod" Fuller drove the David Powers Homes/Valvoline Top Fuel dragster to an unofficial track record speed of 329.75 mph Tuesday at Indianapolis Raceway Park in the first day of testing for the 52nd annual Mac Tools U.S. Nationals.

Fuller also clicked off the third quickest elapsed time of the day, stopping the quarter-mile clock at 4.536-seconds.

"We're pretty pleased with the way the car performed today," crew chief Lee Beard said. "Of course this is just testing. We're not out to win any awards today, that comes next week. Testing is just that; a chance for us to try different combinations to see where we can improve."

Fuller felt the car had more to give. "There's more in it," Fuller said. "Lee and the crew have this thing screaming and I think we'll be the ones to beat when we get going for real next week. We're more pumped up than we've been all season and I think we're going to show everybody what this team is really made of."

The traditional Labor Day race is steeped in history and is considered the sports Super Bowl. Fuller is currently sixth in the POWERade points battle and third in the coveted Budweiser Shootout, with the winner of the $100,000 special event to be crowned at the upcoming ACDelco Las Vegas NHRA Nationals.

The $2.6 million Mac Tools U.S. Nationals runs Aug. 30-Sept. 4 at O'Reilly Raceway Park in Indianapolis with three days of television coverage provided by ESPN2.
