<P> (8-7-08) MARTIN, MICHIGAN – Carl Spiering’s day ended abruptly with a first round loss against the number one qualifier in Pro Modified competition Sunday in the IHRA's Torco Northern Nationals at US 131 Motorsports Park at Martin, Michigan.

Spiering qualified ninth with a 6.123-second, 232.11-mph pass in his 1963 Corvette Pro Mod powered with a ERD (Engine Research & Development) 526-cubic inch Supercharged Hemi, built and maintained at his ERD facility in Jordan Station, Ontario, Canada. But the winner of the recent IHRA Rocky Mountain Nationals in Edmonton lost to Mike Castellana of Westbury, New York, and his 1968 Firebird.

"As luck would have it we qualified the Eaton Road Warrior in the middle of the pack putting us up against Mike (Castellana) in the first round," explained Spiering. "We gave it everything it had, overpowered the race track and shook the tires."

Castellana made the quickest Pro Modified nitrous-assisted pass in history - and missed the fives by a thousandth of a second running a perfect 6.000-second pass against Spiering's Eaton Cutler-Hammer Corvette in the first round of final eliminations.

"Overall it was a good weekend spending time at the races with the customers, distributors, employees and guests of Eaton," added Spiering. "We're looking forward to visiting Eastern Canada and our annual PMRA visit to Sanair in two weeks."

The next event for the Carl Spiering Motorsports Eaton Cutler-Hammer Team is the Third Annual Eaton PMRA Challenge presented by Eaton on Saturday, August 16 at Sanair in St-Pie, Quebec near Montreal.

One of Carl’s daughters, Lisa Spiering, had a good event running a career best of 7.64-seconds at over 174-miles per hour in a loosing effort in the first round of eliminations in her Eaton Powerware-sponsored dragster.
