First-round exit for Tasca

Las Vegas, Nov. 2 - One one-thousandth of a second. That was the difference in elapsed times between Bob Tasca III and Tony Pedregon in the first round of eliminations on Sunday at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.

The driver of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Shelby Mustang entered the match-up with a 2-1 round record against the defending series champion, but Pedregon’s 4.133-second run was just enough to grab the win light against Tasca’s 4.134-second pass.

“That’s the way this sport is,” said Tasca. “If you look at four or five of the other cars out of the 16, we would have beaten them, hands down. This has happened to us numerous times this year, where we either run the guy who ran low ET of the session, or we lose by a thousandth of a second. You know, that’s why this sport is exciting and why there are so many people out here today in the stands. They come here to see close, exciting racing, and that’s what they got.

“Any loss is tough,” said Tasca. “But when you lose by one one-thousandth of a second, it’s even tougher. But at the end of the day, there is one more race left in the season. I was the first Funny Car down the racetrack in Pomona at the beginning of the season, and I said I wanted to be the last car down the racetrack in Pomona at the end of the season, and we hope to do that.”
