Firebirds future

Well, there's still a chance he could exercise his 7 year option, too. Either way, I agree with Force, I think it would be a disaster to lose the Phoenix market.

I could swear that when Charlie left OCIR and went to AZ, the story was that he had signed a 99 year lease with the indian tribe, and no one could threaten his race track for the rest of his life.

I might be labeled a "Force hater" for this, but whatever.

Why did the article about the future of the facility turn to the subject of John & Courtney show? I would bet if one were to count the words, more of the article was about team Force than about the original title subject.

Just looking for something to complain about, huh Steve?

The actual article ended with Force's comment ""I pray Charlie will go down the road and build another racetrack," said 15-time Funny Car champion John Force, who has a record eight Firebird wins. "We cannot lose this market."

If you've ever done much reading, you'll find it to be very common for publications to "add on" stories that are related to the main story; in this case, NHRA and Firebird. There was also a "Pit Stop" section added below the "Courtney a Force" section, both of which are in BOLD letters to denote separation. ;)

That was an excellent article by Michael Knight, and I wholeheartedly agree with him. I lived in Scottsdale back in the mid'90s, and really loved having the event at Firebird, but always felt the NHRA could do so much more to build that event. Phoenix is an absolutely huge gearhead market, it would be a sin to not have an event there.
