I got no problem with dives, but that one was ridiculous. Just dont make the pass Andrew. That looked horribly bad. Thats one problem with this crapdown, its going to entice alot of dives at the last few races.
Well, Justin, maybe it looked so bad cause they couldn't get the bike to go up in smoke at the hit! :D (Only kiddin, Justin--you know what I'm talking about!)

Sorry that I can't just be a stooge and go along with any change to the sport I love, when I predicted and now have seen how bad it is. hell its even worse that I feared

Your opinion is it is bad, but there are many people who like the Countdown and don't think it is bad. So, myself and the others who support the Countdown are stooges. I am glad to see you are so frustrated that the NHRA is moving further away from the "classic" series (points and qualifying formats) you love that you have now resorted to name calling. Wow! Hopefully your schooling will teach you a thing or two about effective communication and not alienating people into categories just because they don't have the same view as you. You can make the same statement many ways without calling people stooges. ;)

Was it just me or did Compton look very unhappy when he shook hands and stood beside Eddie?
I really understand why they did it but it sure came off making them look like fools.
I had to laugh when they spoke to Matt, it was quite obvious he just wanted to get out of there before they had a chance to ask him the question about the Krawick/Hines joke.
Oh well, it is what it is. Congrats on your championship Eddie!:D

It's threads like this one that show how many young and new fans this sport now has.

Apparently none of you were around when Beck and Minor raced each other!

I was just thinkin' that, Bill! Man, did Larry catch the s*** for that one for a long long time. And I always remember Kurt Johnson's famous "at least I still have a job" sign!

The best Finish in my mind was when Tony with the help of AJ tuned his car to a national et record and round win over Doug K. There was no doubt he is and was the champ. There are alot of people on here that do not care for DSR for "buying" a championship. Well is that the same thing HD/Hines did? THis is the same thing as a bad ref in a football game. A fan pays to watch two cars or a team play fair. IMHO

I am Ok with Eddie winning the championship, he is a hard worker and noble man, but that pass was BS.

I was there live for that one, we all laughed about it at the time, but it had the reverse outcome, Minor won his first event while riding the brakes, couldn't slow it down enough for Beck to get by him.

..................Is there really a graceful way to carry out team orders?...............
Yeah, Andrew could have just staged the bike and not taken off, just let Eddie run down there on a solo pass, 3 something light and all. That would have been a little classier than what took place.
Anyways, Rivas lost the Championship by 5 points, he should have covered that had he ran his 6.92 in qualifying.

Geez-4 pages-what the heck was this--the ONLY P/SB run all season that everyone didnt get up + get a hot dog?

look, the only way to stop this is to ban teams in drag racing, which is not realistic. any one of you people who are moaning about the dive job WOULD HAVE DONE THE SAME THING if you were in that position. has there ever not been a 7.60 run in psm? i loved seeing the dive job personally because they had one reason to do it...because they could. i thought the arrogance displayed in it was absolutely fascinating. kinda of like whipping every other team the finger in slow motion. way to go eddie!

I don't think its good for the sport when this kind of stuff happens. Can you imagine the same thing in the NFL if one guy owned 2 teams and had one team clearly throw a game in the playoffs and then in addition made light about the situation to the press?

But I don't know what can be done about it, other than not allowing teams to own more than one car in a particular class. That rule actually might do some good for the sport, instead of 4 funny cars, teams like Force would field Top Fuel, Funny Car and a Pro Stock bike and car. He'd probably end up with more total air time that way, and the sponsors would be just as happy, and dives would be a thing of the past.

You could even have a separate "Team Championship" for the team that has the best combined results.

Actually thinking more about it I think this would be the best way to go, but I realize the chances of it happening are pretty slim. ...

This is as brilliant an idea as I've heard in a long time!

A stooge in that someone blindly follows. Didn't think it needed to be taken a personal attack. Much as I say someone has drank the koolaid. If you consider than name calling then wow.

How can you not think that was bad? Support the countdown but at least be open enough to see the holes in it. As much as I'm against the countdown I keep trying to see some bright spot to it.....haven't seen it yet but I try.

Teams and sponors input a ton of time and money to be the best, only to see someone who can't win a race and has a horribly staged win over a teammate take it away. I'm not a F1 fan but I still remember that incident and the coverage it got. I guess now its good that we don't get enough mainstream press. Hey wait a minute, thats a good part of the countdown then, it hasn't brought mainstream press and fans in, so nobody besides us will have to know about it. See I try:D

I A few years down the road, most people won't remember "the incident" and Eddie will always have 2008 PSB champion on his resume.

I remeber that as a kid, the ultimate coast fest.

JC see these type of runs are remembered and it leaves a stain.

I'm not even mad that they threw the race. I don't like it but I get that it happens and that it has for a long time. I also understand why it happens. I know that I wouldn't want to win that why but thats just me. I just wish they weren't so horrible at it.

One thing to consider though is that it may not have been there call. Knew a guy on a team where the sponsor made the call late in the season as one driver still had chance to move up high in points. Wasn't either on the the drivers call but the people paying the bills made the call.

Getting back to the topic.....

I am in favor of all of us having and being allowed to share our opinions.......

Eddie/VHR/HD won the Championship by working very hard, winning the most rounds.....using all of their resources, being the most reliable, focusing and keeping their eye on the prize.......great job to all of the team and Eddie for coming a LONG way to riding/driving as good as he does.....and to the VHR boys for making power and reliability that, at one time, was not even possiable.

Very worthy competitors in our book. We measure our performance by compairing to the best Motorcycle Drag Racing has to offer.....The Champions. Good Job.

Well said!

I would have had more respect for VHR if Andrew hadn't even pulled to the line. It would have been infinitely better than trying to pretend like it was going to be a heads up race!

Looking at the comments in this thread, it's interesting that you bring this point up.

George Bryce has posted a very classy message just a few slots up. I'm thinking that many don't remember that he did exactly what you suggest some years back at Topeka when Angelle never brought her Suzuki to the line.

She was on the PA explaining to the crowd what was at stake and why the team had made the decision they did. Her comments were almost drowned out by probably the largest chorus of boos I've ever heard at a drag strip.

At the time I was impressed by the teams' honesty and respect for the fans. I still am.

I can't speak for George, but I learned something that day.

I was up there at the starting line in the semi's and what happened was a must for them... That is why you run 2 bikes in the same class is to better your chance's of winning... It is a team effort... If the main bikes can't win the do whatever you can for the 2nd bike to win... Hats off to all the Vance-Hines team and to Eddie for running great in the countdown.... Just name the last time a team car or bike has won the championship besides Shoe in NHRA.... Matt Smith

Nice reply Matt---truthfull and classy in my opinion---thanks for showing respect.
Congrats to you and Angie too.I hope you 2 have a great and happy life together.
